Why Spanish Immersion?
We are so excited to offer the first and only Montessori Spanish immersion preschool in Fort Worth! Children will benefit from being absorbed in the Spanish language while also developing creativity, independence, and a lifelong love of learning through the Montessori curriculum and materials.
Montessori
Montessori education is a philosophy based on the work of Dr. Maria Montessori. It aims to develop creativity and independence by following the child's natural interests and abilities. Montessori emphasized "freedom within limits" and the importance of a well-prepared learning space. As a Montessori learning environment, Mi Mundito Montessori focuses on the development of the whole child and utilizes Montessori materials, activities, and conscious discipline practices. Children who attend Montessori schools have been shown to have higher levels of executive functioning skills including critical thinking, problem-solving, self-discipline, learning autonomy, and deep focus (concentration) [source].
Spanish Immersion
Spanish immersion means that the whole school day takes place in Spanish. Children who attend Spanish immersion schools for an ongoing period of time achieve fluency in the Spanish language. Children do not need to have any prior knowledge of Spanish or family members who speak the language to benefit from immersion. Research shows that second language learning is beneficial in the development of students' overall cognitive and reading abilities and that children who are bilingual show increased cognitive development, verbal and spatial abilities, mathematical conceptualization, creativity, problem-solving skills, and print awareness. The younger the age at which children begin a language immersion program, the best advantage they have in developing pronunciation, structure, and intonation in the target language [source].
